Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans in Southwest Missouri

Fill the Gaps in Medicare with a Supplement Plan That Works for You

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) covers many healthcare services — but not everything. That’s where Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) comes in. These plans help cover the out-of-pocket costs left behind by Medicare, like deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.

At Medicare MO Plans / Akeman Insurance, we help individuals throughout Mt. Vernon and surrounding Missouri communities find the right Medigap plan for their needs and budget. You’ll work one-on-one with a licensed, local broker who takes the time to explain your options and guide you through enrollment.

What Is Medigap?

Medigap is private insurance that works alongside Original Medicare. It doesn’t replace your Medicare coverage — it supplements it. These plans are standardized by the federal government, which means the benefits for each plan type (Plan G, Plan N, etc.) are the same across companies. The only difference is cost, service, and added features.

You must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B to get a Medigap policy.

What Does Medigap Cover?

Depending on the plan you choose, Medigap may help pay for:

  • Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
  • Part B coinsurance or copayments
  • Blood transfusions (first 3 pints)
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Part A and Part B deductibles
  • Foreign travel emergency coverage

We’ll help you compare coverage across the most popular plans in Missouri, including:

  • Plan G: Most comprehensive plan for new enrollees, covering nearly all gaps except the Part B deductible
  • Plan N: Lower premiums with small copays for certain services
  • Plan A, B, C, D, F, K, L, M: Other options for legacy coverage or specific needs (eligibility may vary)

Why Consider a Medigap Plan?

Medigap plans are ideal for those who:

  • Prefer predictable healthcare costs
  • Travel frequently (some plans offer international emergency coverage)
  • Want to keep the freedom to choose any provider that accepts Medicare
  • Are willing to pay a monthly premium in exchange for less out-of-pocket risk

With Original Medicare and a Medigap policy, you can receive care from any provider nationwide who accepts Medicare — no referrals or network restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Plan F still available?

Plan F is only available to individuals who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you became eligible after that date, Plan G is the closest equivalent and covers nearly the same benefits, minus the Part B deductible.

  • Can I switch Medigap plans later?

Yes, but you may be subject to medical underwriting unless you qualify for a guaranteed issue period. We’ll help you understand your eligibility and guide you through the process if switching makes sense.

  • Do Medigap plans cover dental or vision?

No, Medigap plans do not include dental, vision, or hearing benefits. We offer standalone dental and vision coverage if you’d like to add those services to your plan.
